Give Milk. Give Life. Give Hope. International Breastmilk Project

So, I have been very sad about the fact that our third and last child is already 9 months old and I only have a few months left of breastfeeding. I am very passionate about breastfeeding and have always enjoyed this special bonding time with my children. And obviously the benefits of breastmilk are far superior than formula which is why I was determined to breastfeed all of my children as long as possible. Our first two weaned themselves around 16 months and I anticipate Jude will be around the same time.

Today I was looking for a MOPS group online when I stumbled upon this website and I felt God tugging at my heart to read on. I was so touched by this organization that started from one breastfeeding mom with a passion to help other children. Breastfeeding mom all across the US are donating their breastmilk to infants affected by HIV/AIDS, malnourishment, disease, and poverty in Africa. How amazing is this?

The International Breastmilk Project has donated over 162,665 ounces of breastmilk to children in need. Read this statement put out by the World Health Organization/United Nations Children’s Fund. “Where it is not possible for the biological mother to breastfeed, the first alternative, if available, should be the use of human breast milk from other sources. Human milk banks should be made available in appropriate situations.” Something to think about…

I think I am going to research it more, there is quite a lengthy application and interview process to make sure you are healthy enough to donate. I would love to hear your comments or any personal experiences donating beastmilk.
