My Parental Rights
Posted on April 27th, 2009 @ 10:52 am

I have recently been studying my parental rights in our country and have stumbled upon a very disturbing trend of our federal government impeding upon our parental rights. I hope you will read this and get involved by helping to push through “The Parental Rights Amendment.”

Parents play an irreplaceable role in the lives of their children. The vital child-parent relationship has been shown to positively impact a child’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being. For generations, the right of parents to raise their children has been continually upheld by Supreme Court doctrine, and deeply valued by millions of American families.

The right of parents to direct the upbringing and education of their children has been recognized and upheld for centuries. But the tide is turning in our nation. Today, parental rights are coming under assault from judges who deny or refuse to recognize parental rights. Adding further danger to the child-parent relationship, international law which seeks to undermine the parental role is advancing on the horizon. Together, these threats are converging to create a “perfect storm” that looms over the child-parent relationship.

I will share just one of the many disturbing stories of parental rights being taken away. I chose this one because I couldn’t imagine the government telling me how much church I should subject my child to.

A thirteen-year-old boy in Washington State was removed from his parents home after he complained to his junior-high school counselor that his parents took him to church too often (3 times per week). His school counselor encouraged him to call Child Protective Services with his complaint, which led to his subsequent removal and placement in foster care. It was only after the parents agreed to a judge’s requirement of less-frequent church attendance (1 time per week) that they were able to recover their son.

The Parental Rights Amendment will place current Supreme Court doctrine protecting parental rights into the explicit text of the Constitution. Only the Parental Rights Amendment completely eliminates all threats to the child-parent relationship. It is the only comprehensive response to the attack on parental rights across our nation.

Does your child need more iron? Mine does!
Posted on March 2nd, 2009 @ 6:59 pm

Today I took my 12 month-old to the pediatrician because of a strange rash that had developed on his upper thighs. It was red, purple and blue-ish, like tiny bruises. I looked it up on the internet (which I am sure my pediatrician was thrilled at my self-diagnosis) and found a similar appearing rash called petechiae. Our pediatrician also thought it looked very similar to petechiae and took some blood samples and thankfully found that Jude’s blood platelet count was perfectly normal! But, she did discover that he was very anemic, which I was quite surprised about as I thought that my breastfeeding supplied him with all of the nutrients he needed . She suggested iron supplement drops which I am okay with doing, but I also wanted to find some foods he can have that are high in iron. So, here is a list I have compiled…very interesting! ;) BTW Children under 4 need 15mg of iron per day.

Teaching your Child to Save and Tithe!
Posted on January 30th, 2009 @ 6:14 am

Lately, my husband and I have been talking about what it looks like to teach our children to save their money (particularly during these hard economic times). We have started giving our 6 year old, Brooke, a weekly allowance and she is ready to spend it as soon as she gets it. View the rest of this entry…
